First Eucharist & First Reconciliation for Children

Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist is held in the 2nd grade classes of the Elementary Faith Formation program. Participation in 1st grade is a prerequisite to the 2nd grade sacrament year. If your child missed the 1st grade year... don't worry, please call or stop by the office to talk about next steps.

We use the "Call to Celebrate" curriculum for Sacrament Preparation published by Our Sunday Visitor.  Click here to visit the publisher's website.

Typically First Communion Masses are held the last weekend in April or 1st weekend in May, but sometimes this varies.  Actual dates will be announced on the Sacrament Preparation Calendar which is distributed to families in September.

Children in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades who are already baptized Catholic but who are needing preparation for these Sacraments may attend Sacramental Preparation Class on Tuesdays (6:15-7:30 pm) or may choose to attend RCIC.  Children in 6th grade and above needing these Sacraments prepare through the RCIC program.

The Diocese of Boise requires parents of children preparing for First Reconciliation & First Communion to attend a catechetical session for each of these sacraments.  At Holy Apostles we require at least one parent and the child to attend these sessions (We call them Parent and Child Meetings).    The meeting for the Sacrament of Reconciliation is in October and in January for the Sacrament of Eucharist.  The exact session dates are published on the calendar at the beginning of each preparation year.
